The Gardiner Foundation
The Garden City Historical Society is pleased to announce that they have been approved for a Capacity Building and Infrastructure Development grant by the Robert David Lion Gardiner Foundation in the amount of $37,000.00 for the purchase of technology, hiring of consultants, training and internal operations planning and strategic planning.
The grant was awarded on July 13, 2018, by Kathryn Curran, Executive Director of the Robert D. L. Gardiner Foundation. The Foundation was formed to educate and inform the general public in NY State concerning culture, art and tradition and to sponsor and encourage the preservation, restoration and exhibition by existing and future Historical Societies.
"We are both grateful and thrilled to have been awarded this grant and look forward to the technology upgrades. This will provide The Garden City Historical Society a further reach to engage and educate residents about the valuable history our unique village has to offer," said Mary Mahoney, President of The Garden City Historical Society.
The Garden CIty Historical Society Museum is located at 109 Eleventh St. in Garden City. The building is one of the original A. T. Stewart era structures built in 1872. The Society was founded in 1975 and received an Absolute Charter from the New York State Department of Education in 1978. Thier mission includes perservation and education.
The Robert David Lion Gardiner Foundation, established in 1987, supports the study of NY State history. The Gardiner family and their decendants have owned Gardiner's Island since 1639, obtained as part of a royal grant from King Charles I of England. The Foundation is inspired by Robert David Lion's personal passion for New York History.
